What I read in 2009:

In roughly chronological order. The pagecounts are obviously a pretty poor measure of volume -- the graphic novels (Watchmen, Scott Pilgrim) all being significantly less dense in words/page than anything else, and other things (like the hundred pages of endnotes in small type in Infinite Jest) being significantly denser. Also varying page sizes, typefaces, etc. Still, I work with what I've got.

DS Friends codes

It has come to my attention that I am starting to have a pretty solid Nintendo DS library, much of which can be played online. So here are my friends codes! Tell me yours.

Contact: 0044 2672 0324
Final Fantasy 3: 4209 9825 1521
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles: 0774 4116 1293
Final Fantasy Fables: Chocobo Tales: 0988 8423 5076
Metroid Prime: 4295 9665 6318
Pokemon Pearl: 1633 0770 4463

Note that I got a new DS and can't seem to regenerate codes for older games... I thought the codes were tied to hardware, but I guess not. So Contact and FFCC should work for sure, the others may not.

I don't really use LJ much these days -- having switched mostly to Twitter and Soup for most of my socializing and keeping-up-with-friends needs -- but I figured some of you who aren't there would want to see this video: Trent Reznor and Peter Murphy covering "Warm Leatherette", by The Normal. Yes, yes, a thousand times yes.

Pirate House needs YOU!

Seriously. We do. 2.5 of our 4.5 residents have given their 30 day notices, and I know I at least cannot afford half of the rent of this place. If you are looking for a new place, or know anyone who is looking for a new place, please get in touch with me. Number, in case you need it, is (801) 674-3318.

Rules for potential roommates:
Must have a job. Rent with three people runs around $415-425, with four people it is about $325-350. It varies with utility usage.
Small pets only, if any. We're technically not supposed to have any, but we've hidden them for inspections before. I am allergic to cats but can put up with them.
No drama etc etc etc

Martin and I are both pretty quiet and keep to ourselves. With Jono moving out, Pirate House is unlikely to remain a party house. If you like to sit around and read or play video games, you'll fit right in. But really, other than the above, I'm not terribly picky.

Windows 7 question

I am using Windows 7. I also have an iPod.

Every time I plug the iPod in, it asks me what I'd like to do when I plug it in. The answer is "tell Windows to fuck off and let iTunes handle it", but that isn't there, nor is the (significantly more likely, one would think) "Do nothing". It tells me that I can set AutoPlay options by clicking a button, and I can, but in the Devices section it does not list my iPod.

Does anyone know how I can get around this so I don't have to dismiss this annoying window every time I plug it in? "Get a Mac" is not a valid answer.

Does anyone know where one could purchase clear Shoe Goo in Salt Lake? I've only ever seen the black, and only at skate shops.

On Giant Robots

I know a lot of Transformers fans who insist that the latest film is going to be good, despite a wealth of evidence to the contrary (namely, everything Michael Bay has done after The Rock, especially the previous Transformers), and deride anyone who is pretty sure it's going to be rubbish (based on the above evidence) as "not a real Transformers fan".
Real Star Wars fans hate the prequels, because they piss on everything that made the originals great (I'm not a real Star Wars fan, and happen to enjoy intergalactic trade policy and diplomacy, so I rather enjoyed them, truth be told). What is the difference here?
